Boxers all set for US trip

    We're going to America.

Finchley & District ABC are sending a strong squad of 14 boxers to Las Vegas for the club's annual trip to the States.

Coach John Oliver said this year's show promised to be even bigger and better than normal.

"It is going to be massive," he said.

Normally, Finchley pit their wits against a squad from just the host club. However, five clubs will be taking part in this year's competition, which is one of the biggest amateur boxing tournaments on the calendar.

Boxers from Hawaii, California and Utah will be making it a five-team event.

The Finchley boxers will be setting off for Las Vegas next week.

Mr Oliver said that many world champion boxers would be supporting the show, such was the popularity of the annual event.

"There will be lots of photographs and autograph hunting."

And next year's show is likely to be even bigger, with plans afoot to stage it at the world-famous Caesar's Palace.

Finchley ABC have been making the trip to Las Vegas since 1996.
