At least one more game at the White Lion

The future of Edgware Town FC remains in serious doubt.

The club have resigned from Ryman League Division One North, as well as the Middlesex and FA Cup competitions.

The Wares, due to lack of funds, have been unable to confirm that they have a ground secured for the 2008-9 season.

However, the club will not be dissolved and will remain as a registered member of the Middlesex FA, so that, should funding, or a ground, be secured in the future, they will be able to continue under the name of Edgware Town FC.

The White Lion ground will stage at least one more game, however.

On Saturday, it plays host to a pro-am celebrity football match in aid of joint boss Del Deanus.

Deanus, 34, was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers legend Les Ferdinand, Ex-Chelsea hero Frank Sinclair, Ex-Arsenal striker Paul Merson and DJ Spoony will be joining music and film celebrities to play against a top-notch non-league side.

The semi-pro squad will consist of players from teams including Hendon, Wealdstone, Northwood and Edgware Town.

There will even be a chance for two lucky people to rub shoulders, swap tactics and play with the professional side. This once in a lifetime opportunity is being auctioned to raise money for Deanus's care and well-being in the future months.

To give yourself a chance of realising this dream, simply email your bid to contact@delsmatch.co.uk. Bidding starts at £100.

An amazing array of unique football, golf and showbiz merchandise will be raffled on the day, including signed QPR, Watford and Chelsea shirts.

The game will kick off at 3pm. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s.

Despite Edgware Town's off-the-field problems, the Wares, under the management of Deanus and Steve Newing, enjoyed a great season on the pitch, just missing out on a place in the play-offs.

The players were honoured for their efforts during a presentation night at the club over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Denis Maharajan was named the players' player of the year, while there was a three-way tie for the supporters' player of the season, with Rob Blackburne, Gavin Hart and Johnny Moore all picking up an award.

Maharajan also won the managers' player of the year prize.
