Blue belt turns gold as he fights off the competition

EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Sulaimaan Lim claimed a gold medal at the England Open Taekwon-Do Championships in Crawley.

Sulaimaan, from the North Finchley Lido Leisure Centre-based United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Dojangs (UKTD), won gold for sparring in the U13 blue and red belt division, while club colleague Callum Young was a bronze medal winner.

Both began the art when they were five, and are currently blue belts, having progressed through the ranks together. Freddie Gerrard was another to perform well at the championships.

Instructor David Bogen said: "The competition was fierce and all our competitors displayed perseverance and indomitable spirit throughout."

UKTD runs classes across London and the Home Counties, with sessions in North Finchley taking place on Monday and Friday evenings from 6pm to 7pm.

Youngsters from the age of five are welcome. Call 07949 612706 or visit www. taekwondo -uktd.co.uk for more details.
